Rest Assured

we start out sane,
but take on the crazy
in the midst of the stampeding herd.

we carry on,
and we’re carried along
as desire for more is stirred.

yet if one looks beyond
the rear to their front,
looking up reveals a bird.

the bird sees the cliff
and the unending charge;
from up there, it seems so absurd.

abandon all seeking
to soar freely above,
fulfilled and at peace…

rest assured.
